On the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the actual Battle of Fort Macon was reenacted at Fort Macon in Atlantic Beach, NC. I took my two children and my husband to this event, and we really enjoyed the show. Special cannons were brought in (which were mighty loud). As one park ranger put it, “We have had several reenactments at Fort Macon, but this is the first time the Union will actually win.” That’s because the organizers actually did research about how the battle took place and tried to make it as historically accurate as possible.
Many thanks to the volunteers who made this event possible. If you were part of this experience and see yourself in any of pictures, I would be happy to send you a copy. Just contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Prints are also available for the Fort Macon buffs out there. Just let me know you’re interested.
